Bi-annual hygiene visits done thoroughly — the foundation everything else rests on.

The foundation of every healthy mouth is a consistent cleaning schedule, and we take that foundation seriously. A professional cleaning removes the calculus and biofilm that daily brushing and flossing cannot reach: the buildup that accumulates at the gumline, in the proximal spaces, and in the pockets that form as gum tissue ages. Without it, that accumulation becomes the primary driver of both decay and periodontal disease. Most patients do well with two visits per year. Others benefit from three or four cleanings annually: patients with a history of periodontal disease, those with crowded or difficult-to-clean dentition, patients managing systemic conditions that increase oral disease risk, or those with a high decay rate. We establish that cadence at your first comprehensive visit and adjust it over time based on what we actually see at each appointment. Each visit is more than an instrument appointment. We document any changes since the last visit, probe pocket depths where indicated, screen for soft-tissue changes and oral lesions, apply fluoride to strengthen enamel against acid attack, and apply sealants where deep pitting in molars creates ongoing decay risk. We also review your home care, not to lecture, but because small technique corrections often make a meaningful difference in where decay and inflammation occur. Patient education at these visits is practical: what is happening in your specific mouth, what habits are driving problems, what the X-rays show, and what we plan to monitor. You should leave each cleaning appointment with a clearer picture of your oral health than when you arrived. If it has been years since your last professional cleaning, do not let that delay you further. We see that every week. Catching up is straightforward, and judgment is not part of how we practice.
