Custom-shaped porcelain shells that change a smile with minimal reduction of the underlying teeth.

Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells custom-fabricated to cover the front surface of teeth, changing their shape, color, length, and proportion while preserving most of the underlying tooth structure. When the case is designed well and executed well, the result is a smile that looks entirely natural and is indistinguishable from healthy enamel. The range of problems veneers address: severe discoloration that whitening cannot correct (tetracycline staining, fluorosis, intrinsic gray tones), chipped or worn edges, irregular shape or size, minor crowding or spacing, and congenitally malformed teeth. They are not the right solution for every cosmetic problem, and we discuss alternatives honestly before recommending veneers. Preparation involves removing a thin layer of enamel from the front surface of each tooth, about the thickness of a contact lens, to create space for the veneer without making the tooth look bulky. This is an irreversible step, which is why the design phase matters so much. We use our 3Shape Trios digital scanner to capture the existing dentition and plan the case in three dimensions. A digital or provisional mock-up lets you see the proposed proportions and color in your mouth before any preparation begins. We do not skip that step. Temporaries protect the prepared teeth while the porcelain is fabricated. The second appointment, delivery, involves careful bonding and bite verification. Post-delivery adjustments are normal; we schedule a follow-up to make them. Porcelain veneers are strong and stain-resistant, but they are not indestructible. Patients with heavy bruxism habits need a protective night splint. We discuss these considerations before any preparation, so there are no surprises after the case is complete.
